- Coordination of activities of state bodies (other government organizations) in the field of environmental security, including the implementation of project decisions on planned economic and other activities, environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
- Control in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, use and protection of subsoil.
- The provision of state bodies, other organizations and citizens with ecological information, the organization of propaganda of ecological knowledge, participation in the creation of the system of ecological education, interaction with public organizations (associations).
- Participation in the implementation of international cooperation, studying, generalization and distribution of international experience in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, regulation of climate impact.
- Coordination of activities of local authorities, executive and administrative bodies, legal entities, regardless of forms of ownership and subordination, on the rational use of natural resources and environmental protection.
- Control over the observance of norms of ecological safety, the use and protection of surface and ground waters, subsoil, atmospheric air, flora and fauna, specially protected natural territories and objects, handling with wastes production and consumption.
- The implementation of environmental policy and integrated environmental management on the territory of Minsk.
